Hall Green Initiatives

Working for a Greener Future

Hall realizes the impact that operating a business has on the environment and has made efforts to reduce our collective impact. Our goal is to be good citizens of the planet while being able to offer web services of uncompromising quality.

To that end, Hall's Green Initiatives include efforts to:

Reduce Power Consumption

Hall offers managed web hosting in partnership with Rackspace, an industry leader both in service quality and green efforts. Rackspace is actively reducing their carbon emissions, with several data centers being carbon neutral and by offering a range of environmental efforts they call Greenspace.

Here at Hall, we purchase all computer equipment with energy efficiency in mind. We power down all appliances that are non-critical after working hours. Our office uses energy-efficient fluorescent lights to reduce overall power consumption.

Minimize Travel

Hall works with companies globally with a minimum of travel by using screen-sharing technology such as GoToMeeting and GoToWebinar by Citrix. Hall partners with Citrix both to use these service and to offer them to clients.

We help other technology companies better use technology to reduce travel requirements. We even use GoToMeeting to conduct meetings with local clients who otherwise would drive over to our office.

Screen-sharing technology allows us to make and develop connections, share information, inform, and troubleshoot. The use of this technology allows us to operate a single office and serve a global market without extensive air travel.

Reduce and Reuse Resources

Hall makes a conscious effort to reduce paper waste by conducting business electronically whenever possible. What waste is generated we recycle in a comprehensive office recycling program.

Hall's recycling program includes everyday waste - cardboard, paper, plastic, glass, etc. - as well as old equipment such as monitors, computers, printers, etc. When possible, used equipment that still has use is donated to charity organizations so that it can be used by someone else in our community.

Hall's commitment to reuse of existing resources extends to our office itself. Rather than building new construction, we took an old industrial space and renovated it as am environmentally low-impact office with room for expansion. Our office space meets our needs for a larger staff while minimizing resources needed in construction and operation.

Reduce Use of Other Kinds of Energy

Hall has made several efforts to reduce fossil fuel consumption used by other aspects of the business. Employees are encouraged to carpool whenever possible, both in daily commutes and to company events.

Hall's office uses an efficient natural gas heating and cooling system, and Hall recently invested in facility insulation improvements to reduce the heating needs of the building even more.

Support Small Businesses

As a small business ourselves, Hall knows that small businesses contribute vital innovation to both local and global economies.

Wherever possible, Hall supports small businesses. Our customers include manufacturers of reusable fabric structures, technology service providers, and other business of low environmental impact. We hold our partner businesses to the same standards of quality that we hold ourselves to - the best service available, competitive (and fair) rates, and customer service that values relationships.

We know that the best business is human business, and so we seek to do business with those who, like us, are reasonable human beings who care passionately about what they do and about the planet we all share.
