‘Tis The Season for Generosity

This is an entry in our daily Internet Marketing Advent Calendar series. Each day your favorite marketing elves will focus on a new topic to get your internet marketing in order before the start of the new year.

Something happened in my brain as a teenager. During the holidays as a child, I was rambunctious, most likely hopped up on sugar cookies and chocolate, mesmerized by my grandmother’s talking Teddy Ruxpin doll (so what if I thought he was real!). As I got older, I realized that receiving gifts during the holidays was not as gratifying as giving them to the ones you love.

This same value can be translated into the business online marketing atmosphere. Whether you are attracting potential customers or engaging and providing a resourceful experience for your existing ones – giving gifts is a proficient way to develop brand loyalty.

There are a variety of different goodies you can provide to enhance the site-user’s experience. Here is a quick “shopping list;”

Downloads
Add downloadable files to your site to reinforce the value in your product/service information. Whether it is accompanying PDF files or software demos, users like to see downloadables or something to accentuate their product education.

Interaction
Your website doesn’t have to be a static piece of marketing material that’s left alone to collect dust for years. It should be a constantly evolving marketing organism that has the opportunity to grow! Adding a blog to update website content to increase search rankings or a forum to encourage conversation amongst visitors is a good way to keep those marketing legs moving. Adding a weekly poll is also a good idea to not only gain feedback, but to keep the interactivity fresh.

Visual Media
Videos prove to be a solid source of customer interaction – especially with the option to share. Sharing videos using Facebook, Twitter and Youtube make it easier to spread the word about your brand. Even a video blog about company or industry news every week is a great way to provide that extra mile for users.

Companies shouldn’t consider this advice solely during the holiday season. Use this mentality as a part of your yearly marketing strategy. Give your clients and potential customers what they need!
