Common AdWords Callout Extensions

Common AdWords CalloutsLooking at common examples of what other advertisers are using for AdWords callout extensions can be helpful for developing ideas for callouts of your own. Looking at common callouts is particularly useful if you are struggling to write your first set of callouts and are still trying to understand exactly what callouts are.

If you still don’t know what callout ad extensions are, review Google’s documentation here and here. Essentially, callout ad extensions allow you to include brief, additional text below your search ads. Callout extensions can be no more than 25 characters in length and it’s suggested that they be written as short bullet points (about 12 – 15 characters). For example, “Free shipping” rather than “We have free shipping.”

While Ad extensions should always be customized for your specific business, reviewing what others are using can at least help you to start writing your own. Looking at other callouts could even help you establish what you don’t want to say. For those reasons, I have compiled a list of some of the most common, generic callouts that advertisers are using in paid search today.

To obtain this list I manually searched through a few of the more competitive spaces in paid search advertising and pulled out a handful of generic callouts that large advertisers are using. Keep in mind these are simply observations from live search, we aren’t necessarily endorsing any of these callouts. Remember to run tests and find what works best for you.
